Celebrating the Festival of Good Luck, Happy Loi Krathong!!

Thailand is a spectacular country with many magical festivals and heartwarming experiences. One such festival is the Loi Krathong.

Loi karthong is an annual festival that is celebrated on the full moon of 12 month of Thai calendar, which usually happens to be in November. According to ancient Thai culture the festival started in Sukhothai, Bangkok around 800 years ago. They say that it started as an offering to water goddess Phra Mae Khongkha, asking her to take away all miseries and give blessings.

Loi Krathong Festival Thailand

Loi Krathong literally means Floating Crown. Karthong is the lotus or crow shaped crown made from banana stem and leaves. Families enthusiastically decorate their karthongs with flowers, candles, incense sticks etc. these are then floated away in nearby water bodies by Sundown. People make wishes while floating karthongs away. It is believed that as they float away, they carry all your bad luck away with it. At some places a lock of hair or nail clippings are also added to the karthong as a symbolism of letting go negativity.

One can see the spectacle of thousands and millions of glittering karthongs in every pond, lake, river and sea in the country. The site fills up your heart with warmth and love.
